FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About Training and Safety Guidelines
Where are you located?? Google Maps shows you in the middle of a Wal-Mart/barbershop/paint store…
Sorry about that - we’re still new, so it will take some time for Google Maps to get our location correct! We’re actually inside Evolve Strength (between the Dollarama and the London Drugs). Just check-in at Evolve’s front desk when you arrive, and then proceed down the hall and turn left at the washrooms. Come up the short stairs, and we’re the middle door!
All the classes have the same name. Are all of them the same?
No - we personalize every class to the levels and interests of its students. We ensure you progress in your skills, no matter what time or days of the week you’re able to attend.
If I’m a first-timer, do I need to attend the 5pm First Timer class?
We offer dedicated class times for those who have never done martial arts and/or MMA before, or are restarting after a long break. This allows us to have a low-stakes, relaxed environment for new students to discover MMA without worrying about the levels of other students. However, attendance at that particular timeslot is not mandatory - even if you’re a first timer, feel free to pick any timeslot which works best for you. We will know you’re attending for the first time, and will run the class accordingly!
What should I bring to my first class?
If you want to train in a specific style, and/or have previous experience, feel free to bring the clothes and equipment you already train in/with (hand wraps, etc.). If you’re new, just wear comfortable workout clothing - we’ll cover any specifics you might need later. We train in bare feet, so you do not need gym shoes.
I have long and/or fake nails, can I train? What about rings?
Yes, in disciplines where you will be wearing full gloves, but keep in mind this may be uncomfortable and/or detrimental to your nails. We recommend shorter, and/or rounded-off nails for the best experience. In disciplines without full gloves (BJJ, judo, etc.), short, blunt nails are required. This includes toenails.
For your safety as well as others’, please leave your rings and jewelry at home, or in the lockers provided in the changerooms (you can bring your own lock). This includes anything dangling (earrings, necklaces, etc.).
How old do you need to be to train at G&G?
Right now, we are accepting students 16 years of age or older (under 18 will need in-person parental or guardian permission).
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand life happens, and would prefer that if you’re not feeling well, or have a new injury, that you cancel and take it easy. Please cancel your booking 12 hours or more in advance, if possible. Repeated cancellations made within 6 hours of your class times will result in fees. If ScheduleHouse doesn’t allow the cancellation, please email us.
